Aamir Khan will host a special screening of After My Garden Grows in Mumbai Friday. The Oscar-winning American documentary filmmaker Megan Mylansaid says she feels fortunate that the Bollywood actor is supporting her latest project.
After My Garden Grows is about girl child marriages in India and tells the story of Monika, a rural Indian teenager growing food to feed her family and the seeds of her own independence in a tiny rooftop garden.
“To have somebody like Aamir Khan, who is such an artiste ... who is respected for his art and his commitment to social justice ... to have him and Kiran (Rao) embrace the film is a tremendous honour.
“I am thrilled. They understand the influence they have through films they create,” said Mylan, who is screening the documentary in India in association with the West Bengal government.
After My Garden Grows released in Mumbai, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad on Friday and will screen only until November 20.
