Actress Nargis Fakhri had an unexpected moment — the slit of her dress split further as she was going to take a final bow as the showstopper of jewellery brand Azva at the India Bridal Fashion Week (IBFW) in New Delhi on Saturday.

The actress appeared confident despite the fashion faux pas. Her slit opened up further after a model accidentally stepped on her dress. However, that didn’t deter the actress from flashing a million dollar smile.

She wore a black dress with a plunging neckline that offered a clear view of a 22-carat gold choker in an antique finish.

The Rockstar actress had already walked the ramp before her ‘oops’ moment.

After the show, Fakhri told reporters she laughed off the incident. “Nothing happened. Someone just stepped on my dress and I started laughing. I laugh a lot when I am nervous,” she said.

Statement jewellery

The actress’ statement choker complemented her flamboyant black gown. “I like to wear jewellery, even though I like my look to be minimalist. When I go out for events, I like to have at least one statement piece. It always adds glamour,” she said.

Her jewellery was handcrafted in gold with an antique finish by a craftsman from Junagadh, Gujarat.

“I’m hoping someone will buy it for me someday,” the actress quipped, and added that she is yet to buy herself an exquisite ornament.

She says she prefers Indian designs in jewellery. “I’m intrigued by traditional Indian designs. They are so beautifully handcrafted and the designs are so intricate and beautiful. I prefer Indian designs,” the actress added.

Since Fakhri wore a black gown for the bridal show, she was asked if women have moved beyond the stereotype of colour in bridal wear. The New York-born beauty said: “I come from a culture where we wear white for weddings. In India, it’s different. But I really feel that there should be no set notions, and a bride should only wear something when she’s comfortable in it.”

Fun experience

Fakhri was at ease while walking the ramp. She always finds it a fun experience.

“It’s something I am confident about. It gives me an adrenaline rush — who wouldn’t want want to wear beautiful clothes and jewellery and look wonderful — it’s a dream job for many,” she said, admitting that her “heart starts racing” when she’s on the ramp.

During the show, models walked the ramp wearing elaborate ornaments in gold as part of the brand’s wedding collection. The jewels were accentuated with outfits in white, bold red, lavender and pink.

The show also saw Priya Sachdev and Rohit Bal turn showstoppers.

Singer-model Rachael Verghese regaled the audience with numbers, including Adele’s Skyfall.
