Director Homi Adjani on Wednesday apologised to his fans in Dubai because the Hindi version of his English-language film Finding Fanny is being screened in the UAE.
“Sorry to whoever is in Dubai and wants to see Finding Fanny in English. You will have to wait for two more weeks. Else only the Hindi dubbed version is releasing there,” Adjania posted on his Facebook page. An “irritated” emoticon was also dished out at the end. Finding Fanny is an English-language film featuring a mix of mainstream and arthouse actors such as Deepika Padukone, Arjun Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.
When tabloid! sought a comment from Fox Star India, Rohit Sharma from International Sales and Distribution said in an email: “This is the demand of the exhibition circuit across the Middle East — they want [the] Hindi version.”
Adjani’s post evoked strong reactions from fans such as Sharon Divan who exclaimed: “You joking ... I got tickets for tomorrow already ... aiyah!!!” and Anish Trivedi saying, “I guess I’d better catch a flight to Bombay in that case.”
Adjania, to one of his Facebook followers, clarified that the Hindi version of Finding Fanny is being released in the UAE, Malaysia, Pakistan and Fiji, adding: “Studios and distributors decide where they can make the most money.”
At the time of going to print, local distributors were yet to comment whether the original Finding Fanny in English language will release in two weeks.
