The Irish singer-songwriter Sinead O’Connor, who turned Prince’s song Nothing Compares 2 U into a massive global hit in the 90s, is coming to Dubai on January 29. The 48-year-old will perform at The Irish Village as part of a tour to promote her 10th album I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss.

O’Connor, known for her blunt confrontational style, was a controversial figure in the 80s and 90s, and once famously tore off a photo of the Pope John Paul II after performing a version of Bob Marley’s song War on Saturday Night Live in 1992.

She hasn’t mellowed a bit. Last year, she famously wrote an open letter to Miley Cyrus, warning her that the music industry was trying to prostitute her. The letter, which O’Connor wrote after watching Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball video, was met with disdain by the young singer who alluded the senior singer’s behaviour over the years to some kind of mental illness.

In October, O’Connor revealed she’d signed a deal for a memoir, to be released in 2016, and promised to dish “the sexual dirt” of all her former partners.

I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss is an album of love songs influenced by Chicago blues. It was released in August to favourable reviews.

Tickets to O’Connor’s concert at The Irish Village are priced at Dh165, and are available at the door. The show is expected to start at 9pm. Go to theirishvillage.com.
