English pop band One Direction earned over £49.1 million last year, with each member drawing a salary of £5.6 million (Dh33 million).

The group comprises Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson. These figures, however, don’t take the band’s American earnings into account, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

“Their earning power has rocketed over the past 12 months. Who knows what the next year will bring? It’s not bad considering they only finished in third place when they were on The X Factor,” a source told the Daily Mirror.

Since 2012, the pop stars’ earnings have more than doubled, and in the past two years the group has sold more than 45 million records as well as launched three international tours.

Earlier this week, they topped Heat magazine’s list of Britain’s richest stars under 30, beating Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson to the number one spot with estimated global earnings of over £77 million.

The boys will join Coldplay and Clean Bandit at the inaugural BBC Music Awards on December 11.

The event will also see artists including Ed Sheeran, Calvin Harris and Paloma Faith in attendance, the UK public broadcaster announced on Friday.

“We’re really looking forward to the BBC Music Awards. It’s an incredible line-up and we’re honoured to be part of it,” Coldplay frontman Chris Martin said in a statement.

Hosted by BBC radio and TV personalities Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton, the award show will be broadcast live.
