Louis C.K.’s comedy show in New York has been cancelled because of the bad weather, but the star has still delivered the laughs.

The comedian-actor sent an email to ticket holders hoping to see his Madison Square Garden show on Tuesday, poking fun at the hysteria surrounding the blizzard expected to hit the Northeast.

He wrote jokingly about the media billing the storm as “historic” too early. He says he’s “not one to defy future historic events.” He adds he thinks it’s clearly better that he “alter history in the name of safety and cancel.”

The National Weather Service says it expects a “potentially historic” storm on par with some of the biggest to hit the densely populated region. It says Monday’s flurries are expected to build into a blizzard, with the worst being late Monday and into Tuesday.
