Was Solange’s apparent attack on Jay Z because he hit Beyonce? Did he cheat on Beyonce? Or is Solange just a nasty drunk? Whatever the conspiracy theories may be, we now know that May 5 wasn’t a great day for Solange Knowles, singer, designer and artist — and Beyonce’s sister.

Solange arrived that evening looking gorgeous in her Phillip Lim dress at the Carlyle hotel in New York, debuted her pixie cut, and with a drink in hand. We later see her at the Metropolitan Museum of Art red carpet, clutch in hand (which would later end up flying around the elevator) and coat off. And that was that.

Beyonce arrived much later, looking regal in her black Givenchy dress, posing for pictures with Jay Z.

At the gala, Bey and Solange posed together, and even took a few selfies with Janelle Monae and Erykah Badu.

We have no record of what exactly transpired at the gala but we now know Beyonce and Jay Z arrived at the after-party at The Standard hotel later that night. Inside the hotel’s Boom Boom Room, drama happened.

US Weekly now says earlier that evening, Solange first had a go at designer Rachel Roy, whose husband is Jay Z’s ex-business partner before they had a falling out. Note here that at the 2012 Met Gala, Solange turned up at the red carpet with Roy, and also wore her dress. There are more pictures of a smiling Beyonce and Solange from inside the party, though.

Then later, a pensive looking Solange walks out of The Standard, followed by a bodyguard. Beyonce and Jay Z are a few steps behind with Bey attempting some smiles at the paparazzi. She gets in the car with Solange, while Jay Z takes a different car.

By Saturday, four days later, Beyonce and Jay Z’s next public appearance sees them at a basketball game, looking very happy indeed. The same day Solange is seen performing at a nightclub in New York City.

If it wasn’t for this video we now see, we would have suspected nothing was wrong. It just goes to show that in life, nothing is ever what it seems.
