Police say former reality television star Benzino was arrested at the Atlanta airport after a loaded handgun was found in his carry-on bag.

Benzino, whose real name is Raymond Scott, said on Wednesday it was an “unfortunate and honest mistake.” He says he forgot to remove the gun from his bag.

He was charged on Tuesday with carrying a gun in an unauthorised location and released an hour later on $3,000 (Dh11,019) bond.

Benzino, the CEO of Hip-Hop Weekly magazine, appeared on VH1’s reality show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and is a former co-owner of The Source magazine. Last year, Benzino was shot by his nephew while driving in a funeral procession for his mother in Massachusetts.
