The 24th Bond movie will be filmed on location in Rome, it has emerged, and will feature high-speed car chases, a smash-up involving a Fiat 500 and a parachute descent.

The footage — which is due to be shot in February and March next year — will include three key action scenes. It has been revealed that several night-time chases will be filmed in the city centre’s narrow, winding streets, with one car ending up in the Tiber river. In another, a Fiat 500 will end up being crushed next to the Vatican.

The film — Daniel Craig’s fourth outing as Bond — will also see the actor parachute from a helicopter on to the Ponte Sisto, a 15th-century bridge built for one of the popes.

So far Venice and Siena have featured in previous versions of the franchise, but this will be the first to be shot in the Italian capital. Other scenes will be filmed in Serbia and at Pinewood studios.
