After nearly a decade together, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have finally called it quits.

No, wait, that’s not right — they’ve finally tied the knot.

Despite on-and-off rumours that their relationship is on rocky waters, the pair with one of the most popular portmanteaus in the world — yes, they’re Brangelina whether we like it or not — are now officially Mr. and Mrs., and not just for a movie role.

On Saturday in France, Brad and Angie, engaged to one another since 2012, wed each other for better or for worse. Their children Zahara and Vivienne were the flower girls while Shiloh and Knox took on the role of ring bearers. Sons Maddox and Pax walked mum down the aisle.

But even though the pair have now promised to be together forever and ever, there was a time when they were madly in love with other people.

In 1996, Jolie married her first husband, British actor Jonny Lee Miller. It was such an intense relationship that, during their wedding ceremony, she wrote his name in blood on a white T-shirt. The pair didn’t last, but the blood bonds continued on in some of Jolie’s future relationships.

Around the same time, she also dated Japanese model-actress Jenny Shimizu, who claims their relationship went on for some time, even when Jolie was connected to other people. Jolie had famously said that she would’ve married Shimizu had she not married Miller, and that it was love at first sight.

And then there was Billy Bob Thornton. Certainly, no one can forget three years in the early noughties when they were married, and we certainly haven’t forgotten the fact that they wore each other’s blood around town in vial necklaces. Jolie insisted that the pendant fit for vampires had nothing to do with rebellion, but rather finding herself and opening up the world around her. In 2003, after Jolie adopted Maddox, the pair called it quits.

But it isn’t just Jolie with the past famous relationships. Pitt was also quite the romancer, dating several of his co-stars in succession. In 1994, he was engaged to Gwyneth Paltrow, and the pair predictably grabbed headlines left and right with their joint celebrity glamour factor.

But it was Pitt’s next relationship, with Jennifer Aniston from 1998, that created true waves in the entertainment industry.

Much like what we know of Pitt and Jolie’s quiet ceremony in France, Aniston and Pitt had a private wedding in Malibu in 2000. The pair were Hollywood’s sweethearts, loved up and over the moon for each other, but their arm-in-arm walks down red carpets came to a halt in 2005 when they announced their separation. Shortly after, Aniston filed for divorce, and the rumour mill began to go into overdrive.

This, of course, is when Pitt and Jolie were rumoured to have gotten cosy while working together on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith. The pair were spotted together in paparazzi photographs only a month after the Pitt-Aniston divorce was finalised, and the rest was well-documented history.

The married pair are parents to 6 children, 3 of them adopted, and all of whom carry the last name Jolie-Pitt.

Jolie adopted the now 13-year-old Maddox Chivan, born in Cambodia, in 2002, towards the end of her marriage with Thornton. Pitt officially adopted him in 2006. Jolie adopted the now 9-year-old Zahara Marley, born in Ethopia, in 2005, while Brad adopted her in 2006. Jolie and Pitt also adopted the now 10-year-old Pax Thien, who was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, in 2007 and 2008 respectively. 8-year-old Shiloh Nouvel and 6-year-old twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline are their biological children.
