Bollywood actress Gauahar Khan was slapped by a member of the audience while she was filming the grand finale of India’s Raw Star, a musical reality show, at Film City in Mumbai on November 30.
According to reports, Khan, the show’s host, was attacked and threatened by Mohammad Akil Malek because he objected to her dress. “Being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress,” said Malek, before he was pinned down by security on the sets and handed over to the police.
A police official told an English daily that Malek has been attending the shoot for over two days.
“He had been observing Khan. Around 8pm on Sunday, while the shoot was on, Malek suddenly got up and went on the stage. He tried to touch Khan who was taken aback and resisted. Malek then slapped her. He asked her how she could wear skimpy outfits and dance to cheap songs despite being a Muslim,” a police official was quoted in the newspaper.
The attacker was also sent for a medical examination to check if he was under the influence of alcohol.
The police are currently inquiring about 24-year-old Malek’s background.
Khan did not respond to a request for comment from tabloid!. Her Dubai-based sister Zakia Jeelani declined to comment until she spoke to her sister about it.
Senior inspector Vilas Chavan told the news agency PTI that the accused was arrested and booked under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). Malek will be produced before a court on December 1.
