Tom Rodriguez is on a streak now, with two of his shows on GMA certified top raters. The first was My Husband’s Lover, and now the drama series My Destiny. In both shows, Carla Abellana is his leading lady. And rumours are rife that there is something going on between the two. He reveals all to tabloid!
So is it true, that you and Carla Abellana are now a couple?
It is not true. What I can tell you is that she is my inspiration. Our relationship has matured beyond friendship, although we are still not a couple. For me that’s a big thing. What is closer to the truth is that I am courting her.
At least that much is confirmed. How far have you gone?
I’m doing it slowly but surely, the traditional way. I’d like to get to know the person more, and of course the family, too. I want them to know how serious I am about my intentions for Carla. I had dinner with them last week — her mother, sister and some relatives. We had a blast. It was really fun.
What did they think of you?
I can’t say for sure, but as I said we all had a good time. They were very nice to me.
What is it about Carla that you like the most?
I’m still getting to know her and I am glad we are working together again. Work has made us much closer; more honest and transparent with each other. And so I am getting to know her more, and so far what I’ve experienced and seen I really like. She’s a very down to earth person and has only good words to say about everyone.
Including her ex-boyfriend Geoff Eigenmann? She was the subject of social media bashing when she alluded to Geoff as the devil?
No, that was taken out of context. She has already spoken about it, and said she didn’t allude to Geoff as the devil. She was just saying if God can forgive even His enemy, then who is she not to forgive people who have wronged her. That’s all there is to it. In fact, she has promised never to talk about her past relationship, just to be able to avoid being misquoted.
How long are you giving this courtship stage?
There’s no timetable. It’s going to feel forced if you out a timeframe to it. In matters of the heart, you just know when it’s time. Hopefully, we will get there.
And what do you think are your chances?
I’d like to think my chances are pretty good. (Laughs).
