Sarah Geronimo has been chosen as the Best Southeast Asia act at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), beating another Philippine artist, the group Up Dharma Down, as well as popular performers from the rest of the region, including NOAH and Agnez Mo ng Indonesia, Yuna of Malaysia, Stefanie Sun of Singapore, and Slot Machine of Thailand. Though online voting was the basis, Geronimo was still thankful as the nominees’ list included some wildly popular acts from equally social media active countries in Asia. She will now battle the likes of the Best Middle East act Mohammad Assaf in the worldwide vote, which closes on October 29. The top 10 artists go to the final round at the MTV EMAs in Glasgow on November 9.
