On December 14, reigning Miss World Megan Young will relinquish her crown to a new queen. The Filipina beauty shares with tabloid! what her year-long reign has been like:
It has been quite a year, and your reign as Miss World is coming to a close. How are you feeling?
Honestly, I have a separation anxiety. I’ve grown attached to it in a way that I have become so involved in the charity work of the Miss World organisation that I am somehow finding it difficult to let go. It is not about holding onto the crown as a beauty title, but the responsibility of making a difference.
But I also feel happy because I will be able to pass this wonderful opportunity to a new girl. I had such a wonderful experience that I would love for someone else to experience what wonderful memories I have of my reign. She will have different experiences I am sure, but those I believe will be something she will never forget. I know I will forever treasure the memories I have of being a part of the Miss World organisation.
In fact, I will still continue to be involved in the activities of Miss World until 2016. I am thankful that they gave me that opportunity as making difference in the lives of others has been the most meaningful aspect of my experience.
What advice would you give to the new Miss World?
Have fun and enjoy every moment of being Miss World, and to always keep in mind the reason she was chosen to be Miss World. There is a purpose for having that title. There is the glamour side of it, but the bigger part of it is the charitable work that the organisation does all over the world. It can be overwhelming at first, but all contestants have some form of advocacy or charity that they support so it will not be new, except this time she will be doing it in a global scale.
And your advice to the new Miss World Philippines, Valerie Weigmann?
To just be herself and show why she best represents the Philippines — as a country and a people. We’re hoping for a back-to-back win, she’s the total package as Ms Cory Quirino [owner of the Miss World Philippines franchise] said. I believe we have a fighting chance to do well. I wish her all the best and will support her all the way.
After December 14, will you have a chance to resume your career in local showbusiness?
It will all depend on what my schedule will be with Miss World until 2016, this is my priority. I miss acting so much, but my showbiz career will have to take a back seat for another two years. However, it will not be a full calendar so I guess there will be an opportunity for me to do small projects. I would really love to do another movie or a TV series.
