Karylle was one of the featured performers in the Rock That Love concert held in Abu Dhabi recently. At a media event before the show she wore a stunning piece created by Dubai-based fashion designer Furne One, talked about how she loves the designer and shared with tabloid! her personal fashion and beauty favourites.
You’re wearing a lovely dress by Furne One, who also did your wedding gown. When did this love affair begin?
I first wore his dresses in two fashion shows in Manila and I instantly fell in love with his creations. I love the details and overall aesthetics of his dresses. It is no surprise that international celebrities also ask him to create dresses for them. So when it came to deciding who will do my gown for my wedding last year, I immediately thought of him. It is such an honour to be wearing a dress designed by a Filipino designer who is making waves internationally.
Also, because I feel pretty in his dresses. Especially on my wedding day, I wanted to be the prettiest bride for my groom, and what he created for me was absolutely stunning. I gave him a free hand on what to create for me and he did such a fantastic job. As an artist myself, I did not want to restrict another artist’s creativity so I let him design my gown based on his vision. My only input was I wanted a Spanish veil and he designed one that was absolutely beautiful.
You mentioned in your blog that fashion is your passion. What is it about fashion that you love the most?
I said that because I really am clueless about fashion [laughs], but I am changing my ways. I feel that I have to learn more about it because it has such a big impact on celebrities, who really have to look good. It’s part of our job, and if I want to do well in it then I really have to know more about it.
What was your biggest fashion spend?
The wedding gift was a gift from my mother. I don’t really fancy bags. I would say it would have to shoes. I buy a lot of shoes when I am abroad, no particular brand. It just boils down to the right fit. I also go for colourful shoes. I do love leather and a lot of electric pleats. I prefer girly styles although now I’ve recently imbibed more of a rocker’s style because of my husband.
What to you is fashionable and what is your best fashion advice?
Any cloth or accessory that makes you feel good and beautiful. It is important to think outside of brand and trends, but to focus more on what makes you feel comfortable and confident when you wear something.
Advice? Don’t be afraid to ask. People tend to buy based on what’s flashy and trendy, but sometimes it doesn’t necessarily fit. It’s really important to ask someone also about what is nice to wear, for a particular type of occasion for example. And for someone like me who is clueless about fashion, it has helped me a lot to look really good by asking the right people.
How do you pamper yourself?
I get massages a lot and I have facials at least twice or thrice a month, to just give me a fresh glow.
