Award-winning actor Coco Martin said his participation at the Naked Truth underwear fashion show was a publicity stunt.

The show was heavily criticised for its portrayal of women, especially on Martin’s part where he walked the stage with a woman on a leash.

The actor said he didn’t expect such a huge backlash from their gaffe, though not intentional.

Martin and the producers of the show have since apologised. He said he did not see any ill intention when the concept — a circus scene — was first presented to him; neither did he see it as a degrading act for women.

“Mr Martin feels extremely sorry for what transpired and admitted that this incident taught him a major lesson to be more sensitive and mindful of the repercussions of his portrayals,” said a statement released by Lorna Kapunan, Martin’s counsel.
