Dubai to host gangster-themed mini film festival

The life of a modern gangster will be showcased at this month’s Film Buzz, a monthly three-day film festival organised by Dubai International Film Festival. The underworlds of Italy, France and Brazil are laid bare in three films, to be screened at The Pavilion in Downtown Dubai from April 22-24.

Enter the world’s most notorious slum in Rio de Janeiro in the Oscar nominated City of God, directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund, screened on April 22. Next up is a Cannes Grand Prix winner looking at the mafia heartland that is Naples, Gomorrah, by Matteo Garrone. The 2008 film, also Oscar-nominated, looks at the Camorra branch of the mafia and its grip on the people of Naples and Caserta.

Finally, La Haine, written and directed by Mathieu Kassovitz, is a gritty look at the racial and cultural volatile modern-day France.

Entry is free and operates on a first come, first served basis, with only 60 places per screening; over 18s only.
