Filmmakers in the UAE who took part in a Short Film Contest organised by a well-known brand will get to see the fruits of their labour on the big screen during the Dubai International Film Festival (Diff).

Fifteen films by shortlisted directors who participated in the Samsung Shrt Flm Cntst will be shown to the public on December 12 at The Beach at JBR. The event, starting at 6pm, is free to attend.

Earlier in the year, participants were asked to create short films using Samsung products. Shortlisted candidates were then mentored by Emirati filmmaker Nayla Al Khaja. The final 15 to be screened on December 12 were selected by officials from Diff as well as the New York Film Academy, along with Nayla.

“We were inundated with entries and couldn’t be more pleased with the talent that this competition has uncovered. The [contest] has shown that technology, combined with human potential, can lead to amazing possibilities, and we would like to congratulate all of the finalists who have made it to this final stage,” said Shivani Pandya, the managing director of Diff.

The Grand Prize winner of the contest will get the opportunity to showcase his or her film at the Short Film Corner at the 68th Cannes Film Festival while winners in other categories will receive Samsung products.

Diff runs from December 10 to 17. For film schedules, go to dubaifilmfest.com
