Having quickly settled into her new life in New York, Katie Holmes has been working hard to reconnect with her old pre-Scientology pals, but her rekindled friendship with her Dawson’s Creek co-star, Joshua Jackson has caused major friction with his girlfriend-of-six-years, Diane Kruger.

And after admitting on Canadian talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight that Katie had recently called him, Joshua, who dated Katie from 1998-99, was read the riot act by Inglourious Basterds star, Diane, who believes 34-year-old Joshua has never gotten over his first love.

“Diane has been dating Joshua since 2006 – just around the same time Katie married Tom,” spilled an insider. “Even though Joshua’s relationship with Katie only lasted a year, Diane knows that it burned red-hot.

I think that bothers Diane deeply.” And the German-born actress was left further incensed when an old interview with Katie surfaced in which she called Joshua her “first love” and “best friend”.

“I’m just going to say that I met somebody last year, I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable,” gushed Katie back in 1999. “I feel so fortunate because he’s now one of my best friends. It’s weird, it’s almost like a Dawson-and-Joey type thing now.”

Diane’s jealousy

Spilling on the phone chat, Fringe actor Joshua revealed, “Like any old friend, it was like, ‘Oh hi, how are you? What’s going on? I had a kid.’ It was very nice actually.” And his revelations are said to have angered private Diane, who insiders say didn’t want to get dragged into all the publicity surrounding Katie and who is very protective of her long-term relationship.

“That kind of talk will have Diane green-eyed with jealousy,” added the NYC source. “I think she wants Katie as far away from her man as possible so she doesn’t get a chance to steal him back.”

And Joshua isn’t the only ex Katie has reconnected with in the wake of her shock split from Tom Cruise, also putting in a call to her former fiancé, Chris Klein, who she dated for five years, with the relationship ending just months before she re-emerged on Tom’s arm.

“Chris has been a huge source of support,” said a mutual pal. “He is one of her solid friends.”
