So could Cheryl Cole have become the latest busy celebrity to opt for an energy-boosting alternative?
The singer posed for a promotional picture with a plaster on her left arm, leading to speculation that she could have joined the fad for vitamin drips.
The so-called “party drips”, which pump a high-dose cocktail of vitamins and nutrients into the body, are said to be popular with stars from Simon Cowell to Geri Halliwell.
And earlier this month, Rihanna posted a picture on Twitter which showed an intravenous line in her arm, thought to be a vitamin drip.
The drips were originally used to treat the ill and malnourished, but private clinics now offer them, claiming they cure hangovers and boost energy.
Cole posed with the plaster, which was airbrushed out in some versions of the pictures, for a promotional shot to mark an appearance at a nightclub in London on Saturday.
Last night it appeared that the star’s punishing workload was paying off as her latest single became the fastest-selling record of the year.
The 28-year-old topped the charts with Call My Name, which sold 152,000 copies in the first week of release.
A spokesman for Miss Cole refused to comment on suggestions that she had used a vitamin drip.
