Get ready to be razzled-dazzled Dubai, one of the hottest Broadway musicals is coming to Town. Chicago, the multiple Tony Award winning show, which was made into an Oscar-winning film, will have its 20-day run at the Dubai World Trade Centre from December 19, organisers announced.
Set in the 1920s, the musical tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife and cabaret dancer who murders her lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago’s slickest criminal lawyer.
Chicago has already played more than 6,700 peformances in Broadway, becoming one of the longest-running American musicals. Its film version, released in 2002 and starring Renée Zellweger, Richard Gere and Catherine Zeta-Jones, earned the Best Picture Oscar and a Best Supporting Actress for Zeta-Jones.
