Cameron Diaz was forced to rerecord her dialogue for The Counsellor because she “sounded like Rihanna”, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Diaz’s character in the film — the cold-blooded and calculating girlfriend of drug lord Reiner (played by Javier Bardem) — is supposed to have a soft Barbadian accent. However, according to the Hollywood Reporter, studio executives were so appalled at the full accent she used in the film, they demanded she redub all her lines. Diaz’s representatives have not made any comment on the story.

The Counsellor was much anticipated after No Country for Old Men author Cormac McCarthy delivered it as a spec script to his agent, and it attracted director Ridley Scott and a topline cast, including Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Penelope Cruz alongside Diaz and Bardem. However, it has attracted poor reviews — currently standing at 37 per cent approval on Rotten Tomatoes — and grossed a disappointing $18 million (Dh66 million) so far at the worldwide box office.
