Britney Spears has signed a contract worth nearly £10 million (Dh58.5 million) a year to play Las Vegas.

The 31-year-old American singer will take home £195,000 per show after agreeing to play 48 shows a year for two years at Planet Hollywood, according to celebrity news website TMZ. The shows start in December.

But her eye-watering pay packet of £9.4 million a year is eclipsed by that of her rival Celine Dion. The French-Canadian, who sang My Heart Will Go On for James Cameron’s 1997 film Titanic, performs 70 shows a year at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and is rumoured to earn around £300,000 a concert or £21 million a year.

Miss Spears, who has experienced a string of personal problems, became the best-selling teenage artist of all time with songs such as Baby One More Time and Oops!... I Did It Again.

Forbes magazine reported that she was the highest paid female musician of 2012, earning £37 million.
