Aldar’s coin set to destroy the planet?

As part of the build-up to the Middle East premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Aldar is transforming their iconic headquarters into the new Starkiller battle station.

It follows the arrival of several First Order Stormtroopers in the capital on Tuesday.

First seen on the official theatrical poster, fans of the franchise will recognise straight away that the Starkiller is a new interpretation of the famous Death Star from the original movie — and later the incomplete Death Star II from Return of the Jedi.

Like its predecessors, the Starkiller has the power to destroy entire planets in one almighty blast. There is, however, one notable difference.

According to the official Star Wars website, this battle station is not purely mechanical. It explains that it’s “An ice planet converted into a stronghold of the First Order and armed with a fiercely destructive new weapon capable of destroying entire star systems”.

It seems as if the Starkiller has been built into a planet, rather than from scratch by purely mechanical design. And, unlike before, it is capable of destroying entire systems rather than just one planet at a time.

Fear not, though. Given their favourable reputation, and despite their HQ being protected by several TIE-Fighters, it is unlikely that Aldar is planning to overthrow the galaxy anytime soon.

For the complete story behind the giant image, you’ll have to go and see the movie which opens across the UAE on December 17.

Fun fact: Star Wars creator George Lucas originally planned “Luke Skywalker” to be called “Luke Starkiller”.
