Abu Dhabi: Emirati ultramarathon runner Khaled Al Suwaidi will run 327-km from Fujairah to Abu Dhabi in support of cancer charity Rahma from February 3, it was announced on Wednesday.

The run will be supported by Abu Dhabi Ports with Al Suwaidi’s route going through three of their facilities, starting at Fujairah Terminal, passing through Khalifa Port and ending at Zayed Port.

A 2-km fun run was held among Abu Dhabi Ports staff on Wednesday ahead of the announcement to show their support for Al Suwaidi’s efforts.

Al Suwaidi said: “The run is important for many reasons. I made a commitment to change my lifestyle for the sake of both myself and my family after being diagnosed as pre-diabetic and weighing 125-kg three years ago.

“In the UAE we all need to consider our own health and the role of both regular exercise and good nutrition.”

Al Suwaidi will be accompanied by his coach, physio, a paramedic and chef, who will travel alongside the runner in support vehicles.

Supporting the run is one of Abu Dhabi Ports many corporate social responsibility projects during the Year of Zayed.
