While I was in the Markaziya area in Khalidiya, Abu Dhabi I noticed a number of bus stops, where there were no shaded waiting areas. The bus stops that did have a waiting shed were very old, damaged and unmaintained. Some bus stops had air conditioning systems that were not working. During summer, it is extremely difficult to stand in the hot sun and wait for the bus for a long time.
Another issue with bus stops is the lack of parking space for buses. The bus stops are not sufficient for parking two or three buses at a time. What happens when more than one bus arrives at the bus stop? One of the buses ends up stopping on the extreme right lane, blocking traffic.
Abu Dhabi Municipality is doing their best to maintain the bus service, but these issues also need to be resolved. We are thankful for public transportation providing better service because buses are a real benefit for passengers that can’t spend money on a taxi every day. If theses bus stops are maintained more efficiently, more people will use the bus system. I, myself, like to travel on the bus after work because I don’t have to worry about finding a parking space for my car. I also request that the authorities monitor the drivers to ensure they arrive on time.
