Dubai: "They definitely weren’t joking when they said the term ‘skyscraper’ was invented for Dubai,” Marc Lottering said on Thursday less than two hours after landing in the UAE for his first visit. “It surely is a sexy city.”
Lottering, one of South Africa’s premier stand-up comics, is in town for a once-off performance after similar dates in Sydney, Australia, and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He still regrets not being able to honour his commitment last year. “It was a shame. I was in great shape – even my skin was flawless,” he laughed.
“My show translated well in Jeddah,” he said. “I was a bit nervous, with a big portion of the audience not being South African, but it went down really well. The audience was very receptive, so we had a wonderful show.”
He hopes to repeat this in Dubai. Is there anything local audiences can expect from the show? “Lip balm,” Lottering deadpanned. “I didn’t use any on Wednesday, so I’ll look even more gorgeous. Especially the people in the front row will appreciate that.”
On his life philosophy, Lottering said he’s “learned the world is full of good people”.
“This is how I exist. And if you believe it, it becomes true. Even in the airport in Doha, where the women are fully covered, the women smile with their eyes, and tell you, ‘I’m a good person.’
