Dazzling in a gold gown with a heavily embroidered top, Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor walked the ramp on Sunday for designer Vikram Phadnis at the Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai.

The collection, inspired by “Ponds Gold Radiance”, was for the upcoming festive season and had real gold particles.

Phadnis’ line showcased a wide variety of long flowing gowns, short dresses, blingy jackets, gold pants. The colour palette included many shades such as ivory, copper and beige to bright golden in some outfits.

The line also had beautiful accessories such as belts and thick bangles.

The show started with a video of the designer talking about his association with gold, and then Kapoor adorning the beautiful gold outfit.

Designer Pria Kataria, who showcased her exotic collection for both men and women, said she was more excited to showcase an exotic line for resort wear for men.

The designer added that this had not been attempted before in the world and she was happy to include it in her line “Fast & Curious”.

“I was excited to show menswear here. We have never had a collection beased on exotic menswear for men in India and abroad,” she said.

The collection included kurtas, churidar pants, three-quarter-length shorts, pants, scarves and shirts in unique and bold prints for men. For women, it had saris, tunics, gowns, mini-dresses, swim suits, jumpsuits, crop-tops with high waist pants and skirts, flowy dresses and jackets.

“Speed is the most important part of my line. When you want to look beautiful, you want to look beautiful now,” she said.

The designer had actress Mahie Gill walking the ramp for her.

Actress Aditi Rao Hydari looked stunning as she walked the ramp for designer Anita Dongre showcasing her brands “AND” and “Global Desi” in her new fabric “Liva”. Hydari was wearing an ethnic printed top and a multi-coloured long skirt.

“I am so happy to be associated with Global Desi and be wearing this garment which is fabulous. It breathes and gives you this sense of freedom. It also accentuates your body. It is flowy and is the perfect fabric of today,” she said after the show.

Dongre showcased a wide variety of dresses, jumpsuits and skirts in stylish patterns in bright colours under her brand, “AND” while “Global Desi” had long gowns, jumpsuits and stylish saris with jackets with ethnic designs.

Meanwhile, Amit Aggarwal’s line showcased garments such as gowns and saris depicting a mix of strength as well as fragility.

“I wanted to juxtapose fragility with strength through my collection here. I have used a lot of drapery which has been inspired by the Indian sari. This is my take on what Indian couture could be,” Aggarwal told reporters after the show.

The five-day Lakme Fashion Week winter/festive 2013 began on Friday.
