The three stars stepped out from a stretch limousine to deafening screams and cheers from youngsters
Dubai: Alvin, Simon and Theodore revelled in the glitz and glamour of the red carpet at the Dubai International Film Festival.
The three stars stepped out from a stretch limousine to deafening screams and cheers from youngsters – some of whom had waited for more than an hour for them to appear.
The furry characters posed for pictures with their fans before heading into the gala screening of their latest movie Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
The high-pitched laughter of the chipmunks kept everybody smiling even as the heavens opened and the rain came down.
Originally scheduled to be released in March next year, children could barely contain their excitement as they headed into the theatre to watch the Middle East premiere of the movie.
Directed by Betty Thomas, Alvin and his friends are now pop sensations heading for the big time.
Asked whether they were enjoying fame, Alvin nodded convincingly and started to tap dance on the red carpet.
Laughing in his trademark high-pitched voice, Simon agreed and offered his best jazz hands as the cameras snapped.
The movie
Parents be warned: If your children believe the Chipmunks are actually real pop stars don't let them read this review!
Starring Justin Long, Zachary Levi, Jason Lee, Anna Faris and Christina Applegate as the voices of the famous Chipmunks and their now rivals The Chipettes, this movie has it all if it's a group of youngsters you're trying to keep happy for 90 minutes.
Having not seen the first movie I wasn't really sure what to expect but it didn't disappoint.
It's a bit like watching an extended version of the popular cartoon which to be honest I often found myself doing on a Saturday morning without even realising it.
It was always one of those "what's on tv" moments and the music would be playing so you had to listen because it was catchy and before you knew it you'd just been sucked into another adventure with the crew.
Alvin, voiced again by Justin Long, and the rest of the Chipmunks are now pop stars who end up walking the high school corridors having been shipped off to stay away from home for a while.
Concentrating hard on the school's battle of the bands competition they guys think the prize is already in the bag. That is until they meet The Chipettes. Spark fly and the trio get romantic with a healthy slice of competitive thrown in.
Making matters worse The Chipettes are managed by they nemeses Ian Hawke who has them under his slimy wing.
Take it at face value and the movie is a huge success. It follows a fun, energetic story which will keep the kids entertained with just enough silly antics from Alvin and the gang to make them giggle. There are life lessons for the little ones and you generally leave the movie theatre feeling pretty good.
The girls add a more female touch which is certain to be appreciated by all those Britney wannabes.
It's fun, light-hearted entertainment for kids (very young ones though it should be noted). Parents just imagine everyone is on helium, don't expect anything too spectacular, and you'll make it through.
