Indian television star Ravi Dubey, who stars in new show Jamai Raja, says he is a hands-on son-in-law and husband.

The 30-year-old actor married his 12/24 Karol Bagh co-star Sargun Mehta last December.

“I was doing reality shows in these two years but decided to make a comeback with Jamai Raja as I liked the concept. I relate to the subject well. I am a responsible son-in-law in real life too and at the same time meticulous when it comes to relationships,” Dubey said in an interview.

Jamai Raja, a Zee TV show which will air from August 4, revolves around the life of a son-in-law (Dubey) and his constant efforts to repair the relationship between his wife (Nia Sharma) and mother-in-law (Achint Kaur).

The show is being produced by Ashwini Yardi along with Akshay Kumar under the banner Grazing Goats Pictures.

Dubey, who is being accompanied by his real life father-in-law and mother-in-law to promote the show, hopes the show will give male actors more limelight on the small screen.

“As hosts we are trying to serve something different to the people. We have been seeing shows from female perspective but this show will give a male perspective on a relationship.

“Our production team did a massive research before starting the show and we got some feedback that people want to watch a show through a male perspective despite the fact that such shows are mostly watched by women,” he said.

Dubey hopes that the notions attached to a son-in-law who lives with his wife’s parents will also change with this show.

“I personally disagree to the pre-conceived notions that a son-in-law should be given special attention by the bride’s family members. The show will also eradicate such stigmas in the society because here he is the king of hearts. People tend to forget the responsibilities of a ‘jamai’ but take the word ‘raja’ too seriously,” he added.

An engineering graduate, Dubey started his career in TV with a small role in Doli Saja Ke but got prominence through his second show Yahan Ke Hum Sikandar followed by Ranbir Rano, 12/24 Karol Bagh and Saas Bina Sasural.

But he later switched to reality shows as he says was not getting interesting offers in fiction.

Asked if he was open to participating in a show such as Bigg Boss, Dubey said: “Not at all. I am a private person and I feel there are few things about you which should always remain with you.”
