Dubai: Mohammad Azam, who has played many match-winning knocks for Eurocon Alubond, cracked yet another half-century to steer his team to a 63-run victory over Dollar Rent A Car in the second Interface Ramadan Cup 2012 tournament organised by Dubai Cricket Council.

Azam’s 56, which came off 43 balls with seven fours and a six, helped Eurocon pile up 156 for 5, before they bowled out Dollar Rent A Car for 104.

Speaking to Gulf News, Azam, who was named man of the match, said: “I’ve always enjoyed giving a match-winning performance and so it was very rewarding to play yet another knock.”

It was a big blow for Dollar Rent A Car, who stopped some top teams in this tournament, especially after winning the toss and putting Eurocon in to bat first.

They earned early success by getting opener Safdar Niazi caught and bowled by Jawad Ghani with three runs on the board. But Azam and Yasir Ajmal put on a 70-run partnership after first settling down before scoring freely.

Yasir was then caught by Rehmatullah off Gohar Ali for 27 with four boundaries. Azam then joined UAE player Vikrant Shetty and put on 52 for the third wicket before Azam became Ghani’s second victim.

Shetty made 37 with a six and four boundaries as Eurocon got past the 150 mark.

Dollar Rent A Car’s reply began badly as they lost opener Gohar Ali to Ahmed Jamshed, who is Eurocon’s overseas first class player from Pakistan, while Hazrat Nabi was run out

Eurocon skipper Nasir Aziz struck three times to bowl out Dollar Rent A Car and win the match.
