Italian luxury car maker Maserati is shaking up the super car system with plans to have an all-electric line-up of its current cars by 2025. The marque has announced the launch of the all-electric Folgore line, making it the first super car maker to do so.

Starting next year and leading the charge, so to speak, will be the all-new GranTurismo EV -- you know the one that has been around since 2007, is finally being replaced. And what a replacement it is, too. The gorgeous new GranTurismo boasts more than 1,200 horsepower, making it the most powerful road car from the brand yet.

The GranTurismo EV will also be the first all-electric production vehicle from Maserati, which is owned by Stellantis, formerly known as Fiat Chrysler. For stat geeks this prodigious power translates to a top speed of 305 km/h and a zero to 100km/h sprint time of under three seconds.

The new GranTurismo will be built at the Mirafiori production hub, and will hit the market as early as 2023. Naturally, this being the first salvo, the new GranTurismo will boast leading-edge technical solutions based on learnings from Formula E. However, Maserati promises that the brand’s hallmark comfort and elegance will be clear and present.

That said, this is just the beginning of Maserati’s electric ambitions. Following the GranTurismo replacement will be an all-new, all-electric mid-size SUV called Grecale, as well as a new GranCabrio GT. Overall, by 2025, the Modena brand aims to produce all-electric versions of all its current cars including the mid-engine MC20, four-door Quattroporte and the popular Levante SUV.
