Microsoft will share pricing and release date details for Xbox Ally in the months ahead
Dubai: Microsoft and Asus just dropped some serious news - they've been cooking up two brand-new gaming handhelds that could change everything about portable PC gaming.
Xbox Ally (White) - The sleek entry-level beast designed for smooth 720p gaming
Xbox Ally X (Black) - The powerhouse targeting crisp 900p-1080p performance
Both pack the same gorgeous 7-inch 1080p display with buttery 120Hz refresh rates and VRR support. Think premium gaming laptop screen, but in your hands.
The standard Xbox Ally rocks AMD's fresh Ryzen Z2 A chip with 16GB of lightning-fast LPDDR5X-6400 RAM and 512GB storage. The Xbox Ally X steps up with the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, and a spacious 1TB drive.
Here's where things get interesting. Microsoft is rolling out "Project Kennan" - a completely reimagined Xbox experience for Windows that actually makes sense on handhelds. No more wrestling with desktop Windows just to play games.
The Universal Gaming Hub brings together your entire gaming universe:
Xbox and Game Pass titles
Steam library
Epic Games Store collection
Everything else in one clean interface
Want to play that Xbox Series X game? Stream it over Wi-Fi. Craving some cloud gaming? It's all seamlessly integrated.
Built for real gaming
These aren't just tablets with controls slapped on. The Xbox-inspired contoured grips feel like holding a controller that grew a screen in the middle. The Xbox Ally X even includes impulse triggers with haptic feedback - you'll actually feel the road texture in racing games and bullet impacts in shooters.
Performance that lasts
Battery life has been a major focus. The Xbox Ally packs a 60Wh battery (50% larger than the original ROG Ally), while the Xbox Ally X maxes out at 80Wh - currently the biggest battery in any handheld. Microsoft claims the new sleep mode uses 33% less power too.
Connectivity for Days
The Xbox Ally X features USB-C 4 with Thunderbolt 4 support, opening doors to external GPU setups. Both models support Asus' XG Mobile dock with RTX 5090 laptop GPU for desktop-level performance when you need it.
Microsoft and Asus are keeping pricing under wraps for now, but both handhelds are set to launch during the holiday season. Preorder details are coming in the next few months.
This could be the handheld that finally bridges the gap between console simplicity and PC gaming power. The future of portable gaming just got a lot more interesting.
