From the Editors: Dubai takes the lead in post-COVID economic recovery

IT PAYS TO START EARLY: As worries about Covid kept spreading across the world, Dubai and the UAE were thinking of what to do next to help with the recovery of the economy, then and beyond. When airports and airlines were still closed off, in Dubai, DXB and Emirates were getting busy with bringing back travellers come back. Those efforts ae paying off handsomely now. The travellers keep coming back, the airlines are off on the appointed time, and delivering them wherever they need to be. Contrast that with the situation at airports in the UK and Europe – and the one theme that keeps repeating in the mind – ‘When it comes to chasing recovery, better start early on the process…’ (By Manoj Nair, Business Editor)

DO NOT USE PHONES WHILE DRIVING: An accident in which a car overturned while its driver was busy taking pictures of a flooded valley in Al Ain on August 3 should serve as an eye-opener to each one of us. Using mobile phones while driving is a well-known traffic offence as it endangers road safety. Yet, it is not uncommon for people to use the phone, whether to talk, send text messages or even click photos. The distraction, however momentary, not only impacts one’s mind but also the physical reflexes. This can prove to be very dangerous and can even cost lives. SKY IS THE LIMIT: Breaking into the Indian team is no mean effort. Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav, who has been one of the pillars of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League for several years now, has used all his experience to good use and just like a duck taking to water, has dazzled for Team India even at the nascent stages of his international career. The 32-year-old batter’s performance is such that he has now moved up to second spot in International Cricket Council Twenty20 rankings, propelled by a match-winning 44-ball 76 in the third Twenty20 against West Indies. SKY, as he is popularly known, is just a few points behind the talented Pakistan captain Babar Azam, which is a proof to Mumbai batter’s contributions to his team. The speed at which Suryakumar has moved up the rankings has made him one of the top picks in Indian squad for the World Cup Twenty20, to be held in Australia in October. JOY AFTER LOSS: Model Chrissy Teigen and Grammy winning singer John Legend are expecting a child again, three years after she suffered a miscarriage. At the time, Teigen raised a lot of awareness about losing her child. She shared candid pictures and captions, and even a blog post that described her trauma and feelings surrounding the loss. It was moving to see so many women rally around Teigen’s grief and share their own stories of miscarriages, a topic that is still considered taboo in many cultures.
