Bollywood director Vishal Bhardwaj in a recent interview said that he shot his latest movie, ‘Fursat’, a short film, entirely on an iPhone. He also asserted that the day may not be far when entire full-length feature films would be shot on an iPhone. The interview seemed to generate the impression that this was a PR exercise for Apple Inc. and its marquee product, the iPhone — a plug, if you may. Product placements needn’t necessarily be within a movie, you see. But then, the entertainment industry has always thrived on experimentation. From the days when gigantic boom mikes had to be placed near an actor to capture his/her voice -- rendering certain camera angles impossible -- to the lapel microphones of today, we have come a long way. And this is just audio. If a smartphone simplifies movie making, there should be nothing stopping us from taking to it. It can be a win-win for movie makers — and Apple.
