KEY MOMENT FOR US POLITICS: In a significant moment for American politics, Senator Mitt Romney of Utah, a prominent Republican known for his vocal criticism of former President Donald Trump, has announced his retirement from politics at the age of 76. Romney's departure marks the end of an era and highlights his belief in the need for a new generation of leaders. Throughout his career, he distinguished himself as a principled figure, notably voting to convict Trump during his first impeachment trial in 2020. Romney's legacy includes serving as Governor of Massachusetts, where he helped enact health care reform, and his spirited 2012 presidential campaign, which he lost to incumbent President Barack Obama. His departure raises questions about the future direction of the Republican Party and its politics as a whole. (By Sadiq Shaban, Opinion Editor)

THE BIGGEST IPO OF 2023: Arm Holdings' IPO, priced at the top of its range, is set to raise $4.87 billion, making it the year's largest listing and a potential boost to equity markets. The Nasdaq IPO is set to rank among the tech industry's largest-ever, though still well below the two biggest: Alibaba Group's $25 billion 2014 offering and 2012's $16 billion debut by Meta Platforms, then known as Facebook. SoftBank's chip-designer subsidiary, Arm, sold 95.5 million shares at $51 each, valuing the company at approximately $54.5 billion. Despite an earlier aim of raising $8-10 billion, SoftBank's decision to retain a larger stake in Arm led to the lower offering. The IPO's success will surely give a boost to other tech startups and companies waiting to go public. (By Nivetha Dayanand, Web Editor)

BOLD STEP: The introduction of a federal law that caps the total weight of heavy vehicles at 65 tonnes is a significant move towards enhancing road safety and preserving infrastructure. This pioneering legislation is poised to standardise the country's transport sector and aligns with the visionary 'We the UAE 2031' agenda. The law meticulously regulates the weights, dimensions, and heights of heavy vehicles, including those licensed in foreign countries permitted to enter the UAE. It sets a clear limit of 65 tonnes per vehicle, encompassing the load. Notably, heavy vehicles owned by security and military agencies remain exempt, recognising their distinct operational needs. While it takes effect on October 1, 2023, a four-month grace period allows companies and vehicle owners to adapt. This initiative underscores the UAE's commitment to bolstering infrastructure, transport, and logistics sectors while fostering a safer and technologically advanced road network. ENGLAND’S STOKE OF LUCK AT CRUCIAL STAGE: "Form is temporary and class is permanent," they say, and Ben Stokes once again proved the adage right. The star England all-rounder recently returned to One-Day Internationals, overturning his decision to retire from the 50-over format, and proved what an invaluable asset he will be during England’s World Cup defense, set to begin in India next month. He smashed almost half of England’s total with a blistering knock, helping the hosts pile up a huge score in their 181-run win over New Zealand in the third match of the four-match ODI series. Stokes was able to dominate the bowling on a pitch where no other batter could even get their act together, except for Dawid Malan, who prospered in Stokes’ shadow. The knock speaks volumes and is a testament to his talent. The left-hander’s presence in the England dressing room has immensely boosted the defending champions’ chances in the showpiece event, making them one of the favorites for a spot in the last four. It is the stroke of luck England should be thanking. (By A.K.S. SATISH, Sports Editor)
