IMMEDIATE CESSATION OF HOSTILITIES IN GAZA IMPERATIVE: A deadly strike on Tuesday that claimed the lives of approximately 500 Palestinians within a crowded Gaza City hospital marks the deadliest single incident in Gaza since the initiation of Israel's bombing campaign. This tragic event occurred on the eve of a visit by US President Joe Biden. Following the strike, the UAE and Russia jointly called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The UAE urged an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians and civilian institutions in accordance with international humanitarian law. Given the highly volatile situation in the Middle East, de-escalation, ceasefire, provision of humanitarian aid, and mediation efforts are essential to resolve the Israel-Gaza impasse. ALEC BALDWIN UNDER SCRUTINY, AGAIN: Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin is back in the spotlight with the 'Rust' shooting case, as New Mexico prosecutors dig up fresh evidence. Initially slapped with involuntary manslaughter charges in January, Baldwin got a brief respite in April when the court order further investigation. Meanwhile, charges against on-set armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are hurtling towards a 2024 trial. The tragedy unfolded on the "Rust" set in October 2021, with Baldwin unintentionally firing a prop gun, resulting in the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins. This incident cast a lingering shadow against the Hollywood talent including multiple lawsuits from Hutchins's family and crew members — complicating Baldwin's attempts to clear his name. The tragedy is irrevocable and the big question remains if Baldwin will ever be able to salvage his name. (By Manjusha Radhakrishnan, Entertainment Editor)
