NAVIGATING HOPE AMIDST THE ISRAEL-GAZA TURMOIL: In the fraught landscape of the Israel-Gaza conflict, the potential extension of the temporary truce stands as a pivotal moment, offering a glimmer of hope for diplomatic solutions. Hamas's expressed intent and Israeli military spokesman’s acknowledgment reveal a shared aspiration to mitigate suffering and prioritise civilian lives. The involvement of international mediators and the endorsement from US President Joe Biden further underscore the global recognition of the urgency. Extending the truce is not merely a cessation of hostilities but a crucial opportunity for delivering humanitarian aid, recovering hostages, and initiating a dialogue for a more sustainable and humane resolution. The international community must unite in urging both parties to embrace this chance, understanding the immediate impact on countless innocent lives and the broader implications for a path towards lasting peace. UAE BUSINESSES UP FOR BLOCKBUSTER MONTH: A lot happens in the UAE during December, with fun and frolic topping the agenda as residents and tourists prepare to sign off on the year and prepare to welcome the next one. This time, the first half of the month will be taken up with matters of great import, for the present and the future. This comes in the shape of the COP28 event of global leaders, industry chiefs and all other stakeholders in the business of ESG. Decisions will be made on the future, not least of which would be to keep Earth’s temperature grounded to levels that human beings and societies are used to. But even with all those discussions happening, there is room and time for everyone to unwind. And a need to de-stress is there in all of us, and the UAE is just the place to do that. That adds up to another good month for UAE’s business legions. (By Manoj Nair, Business Editor)

YOUNG INDIAN PLAYERS HAVE GRABBED THEIR CHANCES: The young Indian team got the opportunity that they have been waiting for, and once they got it, they grabbed it with both hands. After a gruelling World Cup campaign, the first team players were given a much-needed rest. Barring Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Prasidh Krishna, everyone else from the team has been waiting in the wings to showcase their talents. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rinku Singh proved a point along with Kishan and Krishna during their 2-0 win over Australia, a creditable show. With the Twenty20 World Cup just a year away, these opportunities are important for the next generation of Indian players to push their illustrious compatriots and take over the reign. (By A.K.S. MADS MIKKELSEN CALLS OUT HOLLYWOOD STEROTYPING WITH HUMOUR: Film Festivals around the world are notorious for bringing out the lighter side among actors. Something about being in the company of cinephiles make them come undone. Or so was the case of Danish acting legend Mads Mikkelsen, the villain in iconic hits like James Bond-led Casino Royale and Star Wars, who was speahearding a masterclass at the ongoing Marrakech International Film Festival. He joked about how his Danish accent made him the perfect villain since Hollywood loves to fixate on baddies who were initially from Russia and then Brits. Apparently, being Danish gave him the edge. This is a fine example of how talented actors like Mads - who play flawed but heroic roles in his native country - go dark when they enter Hollywood. So the big question remains if Hollywood will change its stripes now that the world is seeking for diversity and representation. (By Manjusha Radhakrishnan, Entertainment Editor)
