UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE FOR UAE WORKFORCE AN EXEMPLARY STEP: Come 2023, workers in the public and private sectors in UAE will enjoy unemployment insurance. The announcement by Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister for Human Resources and Emiratisation, on Thursday is bound to bring cheers to all those who are employed here and call the UAE home. What is even more encouraging is the fact that this scheme will apply to both, Emiratis as well as expatriate employees. Under the unemployment insurance scheme, workers who lose their jobs will be provided with financial support for a limited period of time while they are still searching for alternative employment opportunities. This is a huge step forward towards ensuring some sort of a social-security safety net for all those who are employed in the UAE. The wise leadership of the UAE has always taken exemplary measures to ensure the happiness and wellbeing of all residents – Emiratis and expatriates alike. The decision to introduce unemployment insurance will further bolster the UAE’s image as one of the best places on this planet to live and work. [COMMENT BY: Sanjib Kumar Das, Assistant Editor]

RACE FOR THE FINAL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE SPOT WIDE OPEN: Arsenal suffered a damaging blow to their Champions Leagues aspirations last night as they lost the North London derby against Tottenham. The match finished 3-0 to Spurs and the result now blows the race for the final fourth spot wide open with Antonio Conte’s men just 1 point away from the Gunners. Mikel Arteta’s side could have booked their place in the top four with a win but the coach was unhappy about several refereeing decisions. These included a penalty for Spurs and a red card for Arsenal defender Rob Holding which Arteta said totally changed the outcome of the game. Next for Spurs come relegation-threatened Burnley before they end the season with a trip to relegated Norwich. On paper that should be 6 points whilst Arsenal’s last 2 games appear harder. They face Newcastle and then Everton. Conte will fancy his chances of pipping Arsenal to the post for the last Champions League spot.[COMMENT BY: Imran Malik, Assistant Sports Editor]
