THE NEWLY-OPENED SHARJAH SAFARI IS MORE THAN A TOURIST ATTRACTION: Sharjah Safari, the largest safari outside Africa, opened yesterday in Al Bridi Nature Reserve, created by Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, under a decree in 2018 prohibiting any form of activity that would damage the ecosystem or endanger wildlife in the area. This makes the safari more than a tourist attraction – it provides a safe home for 50,000 animals from 120 species, including rare animals and endangered species. The eight-square-kilometre safari has a breeding programme to protect biodiversity and will be launching scientific studies on wildlife and the environment. Residents will also learn more about the animals and the importance of protecting them during their visits to the safari. [COMMENT BY: Faisal Masudi, Assistant Editor]

FERRARI PINNING HOPES ON NEW F1-75: Ferrari have revealed the F1-75, their new Formula 1 car for the upcoming 2022 season. It marks the 75th anniversary of the first car to carry the Italian carmaker’s name and it features several new and very interesting innovations. These include a far narrower nose than seen on any F1 car so far, unusually shaped side pods to channel airflow to the rear and last but not least a brand new engine to go with the updated hybrid unit. The team will run the F1-75 for the first time today at their Fiorano test track in Maranello but for just 15km however on Tuesday they will get to test it for 100km in Barcelona as they prepare for the new season. They will be hoping the new car will give them an advantage when the campaign begins next month and will want to improve on last year’s third placed finish. DEEP DIVE INTO THE REAL WORLD: The second season of National Geographic docu-series ‘Trafficked’, hosted by award-winning journalist Mariana van Zeller, is out now and showcases some of the black markets that exist around the world. It’s a thrilling show that is as analytical as it is entertaining — and that’s the beauty of good storytelling. Amid all the fictional shows and movies that we all love to watch, it’s helpful to tune into documentaries that uncover the secrets of the world — whether it’s about nature or history or something more evil.
