NO RESPITE FOR SOMALIA: They had gathered for iftar at a popular restaurant in Mogadishu, the Somali capital. But were blown to bits in a blast carried out by the extremist Al Shabaab. There appears to be no respite for Somalia, which has been in a continuous state of flux since the early 1990s. Six civilians were killed in the latest bombing, which occurred on Friday. The senseless violence of Al Shabaab, more often than not, is aimed at the most vulnerable. And despite foreign help, the Somali authorities over the years have simply been unable to build the kind of security structure and intelligence assets that can help prevent the organisations and execution of such attacks.
