DUBAI’S RESOLVE TO CRACK DOWN ON ECONOMIC OFFENDERS TRULY EXEMPLARY: The Department of Anti-Economic Crime at Dubai Police recorded 2,235 economic offences in the past five years and confiscated fake goods worth more than Dh9.3 billion. Dubai’s Anti-Economic Crime Department conducts crucial operations all through the year to prevent commercial fraud, counterfeiting, multiplication of money, sorcery and forgery. This is in keeping with Dubai and the UAE’s commitment towards safeguarding the business interests and intellectual property rights of brands, business establishments and professionals. Given the popularity and importance enjoyed by Dubai and the UAE as a chosen and preferred destination for business and commerce, the role played by the Department of Anti-Economic Crime at Dubai Police is truly exemplary. TALIBAN ANNOUNCES FIRST STEPS, WORLD WATCHES: An amnesty across Afghanistan and an invitation to join the government have been the first steps taken by the Taliban to calm nerves across the country. There have been no reports of fighting in Kabul and apart from the desperate scenes seen at the airport, things have remained largely peaceful. This is good news. All efforts must be taken to allow people to leave or live in peace. The Taliban is also keen on getting international recognition. The eyes of the world will be on the Taliban and how they conduct affairs in the country over the new few days and weeks. A peaceful transition will help the country and the people. SHOCKING CHARGES AGAINST BOB DYLAN: Legendary folk artist Bob Dylan has been hit with a lawsuit filed by a woman who says that in 1965 he “befriended and established an emotional connection with” her when she was 12 and then abused her across a period of six weeks. A representative for Dylan has denied the allegations saying “the 56-year-old claim is untrue and will be vigorously defended.” While some fans of the singer might be quick to defend Dylan, it is important to allow the legal process to be followed in such a situation.
