CARING FOR A WHALE, CARING FOR NATURE: WHEN an ailing beluga whale strayed into France's Seine river more than a week ago, it caught the attention of not just vets in the area but also people worldwide. After working overnight to rescue it, vets had to take the unfortunate decision to euthanise it. Most people stayed riveted to the rescue efforts, hoping the whale would swim back 3,000km after going through a harrowing period away from home. But it is heartening to know that mankind tried its best to save the whale. And as long as we care for nature and for each other, there is hope for all of us.
