FRESH CALL FOR CHILD SAFETY ONBOARD: Abu Dhabi Police have time and again reminded parents and guardians to never leave children unattended in the car, and a senior official has made a fresh call for child safety during the summer months. The extremely hot temperature inside a locked car with windows up can prove fatal for children within minutes. No errand is too important to risk the wellbeing of our little ones. We should either take children with us responsibly or leave them safely at home. (By Faisal Masudi, Assistant Editor)

THE WALRUS THAT REFUSES TO GO AWAY: Freya the walrus was euthanised a week ago after officials said she was showing signs of stress and feared she was a threat to the public. But her story has refused to end. Campaigners and experts are now asking if there was another way out. Critics say the decision to put the animal down was rushed and did not take her well-being into account. An online campaign has also raised 210,000 Norwegian krone ($21,600) to build a statue in the young walrus's honour. Debates like this go on to show that we are still concerned about nature and have the best of the animal kingdom in mind. (By Alex Abraham, Senior Associate Editor)

MARRIAGE MATERIAL: Indian TV actress Kanishka Soni has said that she has married herself because she doesn’t need anyone else in her life. While it’s not advisable to isolate oneself, there is a message to be taken from such instances — it’s important to build your own self-esteem and self-worth. BAZBALL EFFECT HAS COME TO A HALT: England stunned the world by playing aggressive cricket in Tests and also found immediate success. Aggressive batting is not something new, but the English batters, under the new management of captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum, have raised it many notches higher. That newfound formula helped England find some success in the fourth innings of the four Tests, winning from impossible situations. But in modern day cricket, every move is assessed and analysed to the tee and the South African bowlers came out with a plan. A master plan. Their superior bowling skills also helped the Proteas win the contest. Who knows what would have been the result if England had won the toss? Back to the drawing boards now for England as all teams will be well armed with a plan. (By A.K. Satish, Sports Editor)
