SHOULD CAUTION BE THE NEW CATCHPHRASE? Global tech giants cutting workforce numbers in their thousands has become part of the news narrative for months now. Even when Meta, the Facebook company, does it twice in a matter of months, it’s seen as nothing but a fallout from tech industry adjusting itself to new realities. But when Accenture, the consultancy that advises businesses on change, decides to trim up to 19,000 staffers, then it does warrant more than a part-of-the-narrative thinking. Because Accenture is the weathervane to what’s happening – or could happen – to economies, companies, and consumers. These are consultancies at the frontlines of knowing what change is coming. In that regard, caution could be useful sentiment for everyone to carry around. (By Manoj Nair, Business Editor)

IS THE BOLLYWOOD MOVIE ‘3 IDIOTS’ GETTING A REMAKE? On Friday, Bollywood actors Kareena Kapoor Khan, Boman Irani and Jaaved Jaaferi teased the possibility of a sequel to ‘3 Idiots’, the immensely 2009 popular blockbuster that was loosely based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Five Point Someone’. Question the methods of generating the excitement if you may, but it worked. Going by the number of likes and shares on social media to their videos, fans are clamouring for the remake. ‘3 Idiots’, which questioned the efficacy of the education system, made waves in India and abroad, becoming widely popular in countries from China and Mexico. There is no reason to believe that a remake wouldn’t satiate the hunger of eager movie goers.(By Rajagopalan Venkataraman, Assistant Editor-Features)

STEVE SMITH, A PERFECT LEADER FOR AUSTRALIA: Leadership is a quality that must be ingrained, something that cannot be easily cultivated unless it is done at a young age. Steve Smith, one of the greatest batters in modern day cricket, once again proved that he’s a lot more to offer by guiding Australia to series win in One Day Internationals against India, one of the toughest tasks in world cricket. Smith was the catalyst for the change of fortunes since he took over the reins during the Test series, after captain Pat Cummins had to leave early to take care of his ailing mother. The team was the same that surrendered in the first two Tests, but Smith brought the belief in his players and coupled with his astute leadership, the Aussies won the third Test and drew the fourth to finish the series 2-1. A great feat in testing conditions. Smith, despite his tainted past, is the perfect leader for Australia to help them regain their past glory. (By A.K.S. SATISH, Sports Editor)
