DUBAI PMI UP TO EIGHT-MONTH HIGH IN APRIL: Growth in the Dubai non-oil economy accelerated to an eight month high of 56.4 in April, latest PMI survey data showed. The travel & tourism and wholesale & retail sectors experienced a significant boost in sales momentum, indicating a strong improvement in the overall health of the emirate’s non-oil economy. This resulted in business conditions growing at one of the fastest rates since mid-2019, with new business intakes increasing more sharply than in March and overall activity levels rising at a faster pace. Companies also sought to add workers in April in line with higher output requirements. The rate of job creation slowed from March's over five-year high but was still elevated. IN-CAR DINING CATCHES ON: It’s a new trend that’s fast catching up as the UAE residents have come to embrace the meal-on-a-tray-in-your-car culture. Whether it’s full scale, multi-course meals or quick bites — from steaks with sides, falafel spreads, grilled chicken, mandi and biryani, to other popular dishes such as manakish, shawarma, sandwiches, karak tea, and mocktails — the list of what’s on the menu offered on in-car dining service is growing. The trend has quickly taken off on social media. The set-up makes good sense: not only does it bring the experience of eating inside a café or restaurant into the comfort of your car, but also it allows for greater privacy, and saves on the use of plastic or disposable dishes. It’s no wonder the number of adherents who love it, or simply try it, is growing. (By Jay Hilotin, Senior Assistant Editor)

TRUMP INDICTMENT RAISES QUESTIONS: Former President Donald Trump has been indicted in a criminal investigation related to handling classified documents after leaving the White House. This is the first federal indictment of a former US president and will likely have a huge political fallout. Trump has been summoned to appear in a federal courthouse in Miami, and plans to plead not guilty. The charges may include grave allegations like the violations of the Espionage Act and obstruction of justice. While it further polarises political debate in the US, Trump's political future could be significantly impacted by the trial's outcome. (By Sadiq Shaban, Opinion Editor)

TUPAC SHAKUR RECEIVES POSTHUMOUS TRIBUTE: More than 25 years after this revered rap icon was shot down, Tupac Shakur was posthumously honoured with a star on the epic Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Over two decades of his tragic demise, this long-awaited tribute took place just days before what would have been his birthday and brought together his family, friends and ardent admirers. The significance of the occasion was amplified when the City Council of Los Angeles presented Shakur’s sister, Sekwiya, with a resolution declaring June 7 as Tupac Shakur Day. This recognition ensure that Tupac’s towering legacy will be enshrined in the city’s collective memory. While Tupac, whose music continues to provoke and ignite conversations, it’s still heartening to see Shakur being remembered to this day. (By Manjusha Radhakrishnan, Entertainment Editor)
