EMIRATES SHOWS THE DUBAI ‘BACK TO BUSINESS’ FORMULA WAS SPOT ON: Cast even a casual glance at Emirates Group’s April to end September 2022 numbers will be enough to confirm that Dubai’s move to speed up return to normalcy was the right move to make. It will be easy to forget that Emirates ramped up its network during a time when many countries were yet to move on beyond their Covid fixations. And remember that the latest numbers also co-relate to a time when airports in the UK, Europe and the US were stuck in chaos mode, with flights cancelled and not enough staff to handle operations. And that London’s Heathrow only removed the cap on daily passenger numbers as recently as late October. So, keep this thing in mind – the Dubai strategy paid off. Big time. That’s what’s reflected in Emirates’ numbers. For affirmation, just go over those Emirates’ financials once again… (By Manoj Nair, Business Editor)

HISTORY REPEATS FOR PAKISTAN: Write off Pakistan at your own peril. Put this talented bunch of players in an impossible situation, they will come on top. That’s what happened in 1992, when they were down and out and Imran Khan motivated the young team to win in Australia. This time around, the team led by Babar Azam didn’t disappoint cricket fans with their stunning run into the final. History repeats itself in Australia. Once again they will be playing the final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the scene of their triumph. The three remaining teams, Pakistan, India and England have all won the trophy once in the past, so one of these teams will join West Indies as the two-time champions. For now, take a bow to Pakistan’s resilience. (A. K. S. Sathish, Sports Editor)
