British Pound needs to settle and Diwali is here, our editors comment on the top stories of October 21

GIVE THE POUND – AND FTSE – A CHANCE TO SETTLE: Another government is in the making in the UK and, thankfully, this time the process will be done with in about a week. Unlike the earlier one which put on aspects of a longwinded roadshow. Whatever be the outcome on the prime ministerial stakes, the pound and the FTSE needs a breather from politics induced whiplash. Let the market dynamics ebb and flow based on what the markets throw up, and with as little of those forced upon by politics. The markets have enough on their hands – eye-watering inflation, rate hikes, energy prices. Best not to throw in unfunded policy initiatives into the mix. (By Manoj Nair, Business Editor)

It gives aself-belief and bigger the stage, the better the confidence level. Success also brings hope to others to dream of achieving a similar feat and bring more youth into the sport. It is exactly what the UAE's first win, in six attempts, in the Twenty20 World Cup will achieve, giving the confidence that they belong to the stage. The win might have come against another associate nation Namibia, but the African nation is more experienced and had created a flutter when they upset Sri Lanka in the opener. STARS SHINE BRIGHT THIS DIWALI: It’s that time of the year again when Bollywood stars dress in their finest Indian wear and attend glittering Diwali bashes. This season, it’s no different as Bollywood’s glamour brigade make it their business to look dazzling at every party that they attend in Mumbai. In the run-up to Diwali this Monday, actors like Kriti Sanon, Ayushmann Khurrana, and fashion designer Manish Malhotra are throwing private bashes at their home and stars are making it a point to look their fashionable best. While many think these stars for blatantly promoting consumerism and materialistic greed, there’s no denying that the actors set the sartorial rules every Diwali. While Katrina Kaif is embracing the minimalist look, we have young actors like Ananya Panday dressing up like a bride on Diwali and both look equally good.
