ALL EYES ON G20 SUMMIT: In light of the upcoming G20 Leaders' Summit, India finds itself presented with a significant opportunity. Under India's G20 presidency, there is a commitment to prioritise addressing the urgent issue of the climate crisis. This commitment specifically encompasses key areas such as climate finance, the advancement of green technologies, and ensuring a just and equitable transition to sustainable energy sources. Notably, the forthcoming summit in New Delhi is expected to be graced by the presence of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is important to highlight that G20 member countries hold immense significance for the UAE's economy, playing a pivotal role in its trade activities, including accounting for 43% of non-oil exports, 39% of re-exports, and 67% of imports. UAE FACES SCHOOLING SURGE: The surge in demand for schools in the UAE for the 2023-24 academic year underscores the urgent need for additional educational institutions. The influx of new residents relocating to the UAE has created a pressing requirement for expanding the school network. This demographic shift is particularly noticeable, with more European families choosing Dubai and Abu Dhabi as their new homes. Factors such as population growth, favourable business conditions, and the UAE's reputation for safety are drawing families with school-age children, leading to a doubling of demand in some schools compared to initial forecasts before the summer break. The growing population and continued business activity indicate an immediate need for more schools in the UAE. (By Dhanusha Gokulan, Chief Reporter) Image Credit: Virendra Saklani/Gulf News

HONOURING UAE FARMERS: The launch of the second round of the Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Agricultural Excellence Award, now valued at Dh10 million, is a beacon of hope for the UAE's agricultural sector. This initiative not only serves to reward and acknowledge the tireless efforts of our farmers and livestock breeders but also underscores their pivotal role in advancing agricultural sustainability, bolstering food security, and enhancing the quality of our local produce. This award goes beyond mere recognition; it fosters a healthy spirit of competition among our agricultural community, spurring innovation and growth. This year's award promises even greater excitement with nine diverse festivals and 21 contests across 62 associated competitions. The four main categories, encompassing various subcategories, ensure that excellence in crop production, animal husbandry, and agricultural innovation is duly acknowledged. As we embark on this second round, let us celebrate and support the remarkable individuals who drive the UAE's agricultural progress. (By Jay Hilotin, Senior Assistant Editor) Image Credit: Supplied

RONALDO KEEPS SHIFTING THE GOALPOSTS: Not sitting on one’s laurels is the hallmark of great champions. They just don’t stop and it is their constant endeavour to raise the bar that gives them the legendary status. Irrespective of the sport they pursue, it’s one common trait that is universal among all elite champions. Cristiano Ronaldo has once again demonstrated the fire in his belly that has propelled him to his own orbit. The Portuguese striker wants to achieve more after becoming the first player to score 850 career goals. Now the 38-year-old, despite being at the twilight of his career, aims to set the bar high and go way up, beyond everyone’s reach. It shows the commitment to his profession and the love and dedication that he shows to the sport. (By A.K.S. SATISH, Sports Editor) Image Credit: AFP
