AI AND MACHINE LEARNING RESHAPES APPLE’S LATEST IPHONES, WATCHES: Apple is subtly leveraging emerging technology to enhance the basic functions of its new gadgets. On Tuesday, the tech giant introduced a new range of iPhones and an updated watch, both powered by advanced semiconductor designs that reinforce new AI capabilities. The Series 9 Watch boasts an improved chip equipped with a four-core "Neural Engine," doubling the speed of machine learning tasks. This enhancement translates to a 25 per cent boost in Siri's accuracy, Apple's voice assistant. Machine learning also enabled Apple to launch a new way to interact with the device where people can ‘double tap’ by finger-pinching with their watch hand and perform various tasks. The feature works by using the new chip and machine learning to detect subtle movements and changes in blood flow when users tap their fingers together. AI is indeed here, right at our fingertips. UAE AID TEAM IN LIBYA: The UAE has dispatched a 34-member search-and-rescue team to aid survivors of the catastrophic flooding caused by Storm Daniel in Libya. Equipped with vehicles, jet skis, and specialised equipment, the team arrived at Benghazi Airport in response to a humanitarian crisis that has claimed thousands of lives, with more than 5,000 presumed dead and 10,000 missing due to the collapse of two dams in northeastern Libya. The UAE's rapid and compassionate response demonstrates the spirit of international solidarity and highlights the commitment to assist those in dire need during times of crisis. HAPPINESS SIM: The recent collaboration between the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) and telecom operator du, to introduce the "Happiness SIM” is a commendable initiative. This partnership demonstrates a sincere commitment to the well-being and connectivity of blue-collar workers in the UAE. It offers tangible benefits: with the provision of 6 months of free data and affordable international call rates, it helps workers can stay in touch with their families and loved ones back home without straining their finances. The accessibility of the SIM through various channels, including online services and business service centres, simplifies the process. The Happiness SIM not only addresses a practical need but also embodies the UAE's ethos of compassion and inclusivity. It sets a positive precedent for private-public partnerships that prioritise the welfare of the people, contributing to a happier and more connected UAE. Lucknow Super Giants' KL Rahul
RAHUL ANSWERS HIS CRITICS WITH A STRAIGHT BAT: Indian batter KL Rahul has shown his resolve many a time on the field. On several occasions, the right-hander has proved that his nerves are made of steel when he had to overcome several injuries to his body, still come back stronger. The classy cricketer, who has the ability to play across all formats, is probably one of the most unfortunate players as every time he hits the form, he suffers an injury immediately after. The 31-year-old Karnataka batter, in the meantime, has lost his position as the vice-captain of the Indian team and many questioned his inclusion in the Indian team for Asia Cup. Thankfully, Rahul found his this time and has answered his critics in no uncertain terms when he scored a century against Pakistan. His ability to play pace and spin well has only bolstered the Indian middle order. One has to wonder the grit and determination of Rahul and hopes he stays away from injury for a longer period. Taylor Swift emerges at the top at the MTV VMAs
TAYLOR SWIFT REIGNS SUPREME AT THE 2023 MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS: Pop idol Taylor Swift’s domination at this year’s MTV VMAs is an unadulterated display of her growing sway and clout among music fans globally. MTV VMAs is a fan-voted award and Swift’s ‘Anti-Hero’ hit ticked all the right boxes with her mammoth fan base. Swift owned the night right from the word go as she took home the night’s top prize including video of the year for her ‘Midnights’ track Anti-Hero as well as best direction, best pop video, and song of the year. Her absolute takeover began right at the start of the show when NSYNC, in coordinated suits, presented her with the best pop video award. There’s no doubt that Swift’s multiple wins have now solidified her as the awards night’s unrivaled star and we couldn’t be more happier for this shining talent. She’s a deserving candidate and deserves all the spotlight, and fortunately Kanye West – who grabbed her microphone when she won at 19 – wasn’t around to spoil her glorious moment on stage.
